ElsaOBrienLopez Elsa O’Brien is a Special Educational Needs Coordinator and teacher trainer at the British Council Spain who has worked as a young learner teacher for over 10 years. Elsa is passionate about inclusive and bilingual education and has also carried out research on active methodologies in bilingual programmes and their effect in reducing the performance gap between students from different socioeconomic backgrounds.

JudithSauriMedina Mrs. Judy Sauri is the Treasurer of the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE). She was Vice-President of the Network of Hispanic Administrators in Education from Illinois and was recognized at “Día del Niño Parade” for her commitment towards education and development of Latino students. Judy has served for over 20 years on the Illinois Association of Multilingual Multicultural Education (IAMME) board in different capacities, in her last term as the President, prior as Treasurer because she holds an MBA. IAMME is the Illinois affiliate of the NABE. Mrs. Sauri continues assisting educators to learn the importance of advocacy by providing professional development and tools needed for educators of English Language Learners. Her expertise is coaching new principals or principal candidates to use data in strategic planning, validating the need to influence people to improve their practice. How to manage budget, aligning resources with instructional priorities. Modeling the use of data to improve instruction and student achievement using standards (CCSS) to support and sustain gains using best practices (UbD, DOK, Standard-Based instruction). Teaching and inspiring them how to lead the change process aligning school goals and district priorities through the involvement of all stakeholders; students, educators, parents, and community members in implementing a common goal. Judy is the Retired Principal at Richard Edwards Dual Language International Baccalaureate & Fine and Performing Arts School; a Chicago Public School (CPS). Edwards serves over 1,500 students; 95% are from Latino heritage. Through the 32 years that Judy served CPS, she has used many hats: Bilingual teacher, after-school coordinator, Curriculum Design Team Member, ESL Resource teacher, Bilingual Lead Teacher, presenter and staff development liaison, Dean of Students, Disciplinarian, Parent Coordinator, and grant writer are among some of them. Prior to moving to Chicago, Judy Sauri graduated Cum Laude from University of Puerto Rico. She worked as the Associate Director of the School of Business Administration at Universidad del Turabo, in Puerto Rico teaching graduate courses in the areas of Marketing Management and Accounting in the MBA program.
AlisonMartin Alison Martín is a Senior Advisor for Educational Partners International (EPI), a J-1 Visa sponsor that brings teachers from around the world to teach for 3-5 years in the United States. She has been with EPI for 12 years. Previously, Alison was the Director of Admissions. While in this role, she led EPI’s recruitment, screening, and licensure of international teachers. EPI currently places teachers in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
