La Asociación Enseñanza Bilingüe organiza las II Jornadas de DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL cuyas sesiones se ofrecerán en línea durante el curso 2020/2021.

Los contenidos de las sesiones serán de utilidad para los asistentes y enfocados a permitir su aplicación en la actividad profesional diaria de maestros y profesores.

PLAYING CATCH OR CATCHING A COLD? ENGLISH LEARNER'S VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT

Vocabulary acquisition is a critical component of academic literacy and school success. Research shows that consistent exposure to new words and systematic instruction that includes scaffolding techniques are critical elements for teaching vocabulary to English learners. This presentation will focus on the teaching of high-frequency words, general academic words, and domain-specific words. A series of strategies for vocabulary instruction will be demonstrated. 

Dr. RICARDO GONZÁLEZ-CARRIEDO

University of North Texas

Ricardo González-Carriedo is an associate professor of bilingual education at the University of North Texas (UNT). His research interests include bilingual teacher preparation, the internationalization of teacher education programs and the representation of Latino students in the media. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of León in Spain and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University. Prior to his service at UNT, he worked at the University of Paris (France) for two years and was a secondary teacher in North Carolina and Arizona for 11 years.
